| Chapter 1: Alone - Spoiler:
I had been living a long lonely life for as long as I could remember. I was always alone… In the dark… I hated to think about my depressing life but when I was all alone my mind tended to wonder on and on. Sometimes I wished it was as easy to… die… as it was for normal people. I coughed and rolled over in the hard, dusty hotel bed to see the bright crimson red letters of the alarm clock blinking and reading “3:27 AM.” I moaned and rolled over falling onto the hard stained carpet floor. I hadn’t realized how close I was to the edge of the bed. I ran my fingers through my hair after sitting up. I could tell my eyes were swollen. They felt hot and tight. I had done a lot of crying last night… I looked around the hotel room scanning my surroundings as I always did. My hotel room was small, it didn’t need to be any bigger since it was only me staying there. The room looked like every other hotel room did. The walls of the bedroom were tan, the side tables and dressers were a light wood, the carpet was also tan, and the bed was stripped with different shades of brown, foggy white, and tan. I stood up a bit wobbly from the tiredness that still rested in my eyes. My vision was foggy and I couldn’t see but only 5 feet in front of myself. I rubbed my eyes hard trying to get rid of the blur that filled them. Once I was able to see clearly again, I walked into the living room/kitchen of my hotel room. The living room was boring, of course. The couch was stripped with the same shades as the bed, but somehow… The couch was even uglier. I looked at the hideous walls matching. The colors of the room just repeated everywhere I looked. I spun in a slow circle saying the names of the colors I saw aloud. “Brown, tan, white, tan, brown, white, tan, brown.” I pressed my lips together hard then sighed dragging myself sluggishly into the kitchen. I drug my feet against the white carpet. When my feet slid onto the tile I stumbled a bit, putting my hand on the fridge catching my balance. I opened the small mini fridge to see bottles of red liquid and a few burgers I had ordered from room service and saved for later. I snatched up a burger and a bottle of the red liquid and set them on the brown kitchen counters. I clicked the bottom right button of the black microwave to hear it click open. The sound of the microwave beeping and clicking rang in the silence of the old hotel room. I took the burger out of the plastic rap it was sitting inside and set it on a plate in the microwave shutting the door. I searched for the buttons then set the time for 30 seconds. I put my back against the wall the slid down to floor holding the bottle of red liquid. I closed my eyes now sitting on the cold, hard, tile floor. I opened the bottle and smelt the sweet aroma fill the area around me. I took a sip of what was in the small bottle without opening my eyes. I sat quietly as I listened the beep after the microwave stopped. There was dead silence throughout the room. I couldn’t hear a thing. Not even my own heart beat. The year is 2397 and the world has been growing abandoned. The silence grew deeper every night. People were killed every day. There is only near 4 million humans left alive throughout the whole world. The country of America was the most populated and civilized at the moment of time. The rest of the world was basically dead. The rest of the “things” that were alive were monsters and creatures that didn’t usually exist but in books. I… Am one of them. My name is Angel Brook Shadows, but I prefer to go by Brook. I am a vampire… I have been a vampire since I was born and just recently I discovered my shape shifting abilities. My twin sister and I were the first to ever be born a vampire, from a vampire. Scientists had always said that it was impossible for a vampire to have kids since technically we are dead and our bodies don’t function as those of alive ones… but somehow, we were the acception to that theory. My sisters name is Luna Rosetta Shadows, but she goes by Rose. My sister and I are 14. The only thing that is really different about us is our location. Rose is somewhere across the world in a country called “America.” I am in London, England. My sister and I had been separated at birth 14 years ago. She lived with our dad Alex while I lived with my mother Ana. We have never even met, but now that the world is coming to an end I figured we should find each other… My journey looking for my sister has been going on since I was 9. My mother had died when I was only 7, so I have been living alone. I usually stayed in abandoned hotels or houses. My life had been pretty depressing for as long as I can remember. Even when my mother was still alive we never spent much time together. And when we did it wasn’t all that great. My mom had always been rough with me. Not abusive just… Stressed I guess you could say. After I finished my “dinner”, I threw away all the trash and wiped down the kitchen counters. I slumped over to the ugly striped couch and flung myself onto it. I took a look at my white and gold wrist watch that read “4:18 AM.” I sighed and picked up the television remote that sat on the floor next to the couch. Turning on the tv to channel 13 news I sat watching closely listening for any important news. “Hello again, this is Amilia Smith reporting live. We have just received news that a family of 7 was killed at least 3 hours ago by a shadow demon! It was all very tragic. The world population seems to be growing smaller every day. The government is now forming Survivor camps and hunting groups throughout the world. The hunting groups are going after all these mystical creatures that are killing what is left of the human population and the only location for these camps at the moment is at Williamsburg, Virginia, America. Now signing off, I’m Amilia Smith! Stay safe survivors!” Rage filled me. It had always bothered me how just because I wasn’t human I was considered a “creature.” I was just like any other human just with a different diet and had better senses! I stood up and threw the remote at the 32” flat screen tv without thinking. The tv screen shattered along with the remote. I cupped my hands over my mouth in shock and whispered to myself “Oops.” I shrugged then walked to my bedroom and flung my already packed purple and black duffle bag over my shoulder. Today would be the day I would fly to America. I had never been out of Europe before so I was kind of looking forward to this. I looked around the room making sure I hadn’t missed anything then walked into the bathroom right outside the bedroom door. I looked in the mirror at myself. I was wearing red skinny jeans, a white babydoll shirt, and white heals to make me taller. I may be a vampire but Im still a teen. I smiled a bit to myself then set my bag down and took out my brush, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Setting down the toothbrush and toothpaste I began brushing through my hair with the brush. My hair was blonde and about the length to where it barely rested on my shoulders, and my eyes… Everyone had always said my eyes were the most unique and rare. My eyes were an odd shade of light purple. After brushing my hair out thoroughly I tossed the brush on top of my duffle bag and then brushed my teeth. After cleaning myself up good enough to leave, I put my things back into my bag, slung it back over my shoulder and walked out the hotel room. I walked out into the 57 degrees hallway and walked silently down the stairwell. I had been staying on the 13th floor. I walked all the way to the lobby floor within 3 seconds, if that. I usually didn’t use any of my supernatural abilities but I was bound and determined to check out and find my long lost sister.
Chapter 2: Off to America - Spoiler:
I walked out to my car that was sitting in the parking lot. Of course I wasn’t old enough to drive but who cared when the world was ending as we know it. I took the keys out of my back left pocket and mashed the blue button popping the trunk open. I set my duffle bag down in the trunk and slammed it shut nearly denting the car… Sometimes my strength got the better of me. I stepped back a few feet facing the driver’s side of the car. My car was the newest car known to the world, also the fastest. It was black with a white pin stripe down the middle. It was sleek and fast. Its top speed was 530 mph. It is called the Curro which is Latin for speed. It didn’t seem possible but neither did anything else in this world. I walked over to the door on the right side of the car and climbed into the driver’s seat. I placed my hands on the tan leather steering wheel and sighed. “Just another day,” I said to myself right before putting the gear shift into reverse. I backed out slowly, pulled out of the parking lot, shifted the gear, and put the petal to the medal. The nearest airport was about 4 hours away but being in a fast car such as this it would only take about 2. I drove with speed moving down the road only having to switch lanes a few times to avoid hitting a few drivers. I looked to my right out the window without slowing down or even worrying about hitting something. Outside my window I looked at the withered land. It was brown… It was hideous. The world used to be amazing, but nothing was anymore. The world used to be lush, green, beautiful. I shook my head slightly remembering just a few years ago how nice it was to sit in big open green fields and watch the clouds. As a kid I had always preferred to stay outside. Being outside made me feel like reality wasn’t… reality. It made me feel like everything was ok, that I had a mom, a dad, and my sister. I wished I could do that once again. I hadn’t realized how long I had been lost in thought until I heard a horn honk not too far away that made me snap back into reality. I glanced at the clock on the dash right above the black radio that sat against the stained wood. The clock read “6:57 AM” in simple black numbers. “Not too much longer” I whispered simply to myself. I took my right hand off the steering wheel and slid my phone out of my back right pocket. It was a dull pearl color and was packed down with the latest stuff, GPS, Trackers, internet, and everything else I could possibly need. I clicked the simply button on the bottom of the black shiny screen causing it to light up. I entered my password and went to my contacts. I scrolled through my few hundred contacts before finding the name I had been looking for. I clicked on the name “Alana.” Alana was one of my best friends and had been since I was about 3 years old. She wasn’t like me, she was a werewolf. Alana currently lived in Australia. It had been 3 years since we had seen each other be we kept in contact. I began typing a text message quickly, glancing at the road every few seconds. “Hey Alana, its Brook… Obviously. Im super stressed, can you talk right now? I’m on my way to the Southampton Airport. I finally found Rose’s location. She’s all the way in America” then I hit send and set my phone down in my lap placing both hands back on the wheel. An hour later I reached the airport. The parking lot was pretty empty, not that It was a surprise. I pulled into the closest spot by the door of the airport. Climbing out of my car, I popped the trunk, and got out my duffle bag. I flung it over my shoulder, shut the trunk, and started towards the door. It was completely silent until… I heard a growl. A deep growl. I stopped in my tracks half way to the entrance of the airport. I stood still listening. I heard the growl again. I spun around quickly as I heard a foot step in my direction. I had spun around to see nothing, just my car in the distance. I looked around once more before slowly turning back towards the airport entrance. When I reached the entrance I heard the growling again. Now, it was closer, much closer. I didn’t bother to look I just quickly walked inside the airport. Airports no longer had security checks before boarding planes so all I had to do was go straight to baggage weighing and then to the waiting room. It was now 8:03 AM and my plane would be here at 9:00 AM. I sat down quietly in a chair near the large glass windows of the waiting area. I sat my duffle bag at my feet and began to look around. The airport wasn’t as ugly as everything else in the world was. The carpet was a deep blue with little green diamonds on it in a pattern. To my left was the wall that had the large glass windows covering more than ¾ of the wall. Then, to my right was the food stands. They had a large variety but only 3 out of the 11 choices were open. I looked down at the chairs beside me scanning them. They were a dark blue matching the carpet and were plastic… Not very comfy either. Buzz, buzz, buzz. My phone vibrated lightly in my back pocket. I slid it out and looked at the new message. “Hey Brook, sorry I didn’t answer right away. I was… dealing with someone. And that’s great your finally getting the chance to find your sister Rose! I hope everything turns out alright. How have u been?” I grinned a bit and before I had the chance to reply I noticed someone walking not too far from myself. I looked from the corner of my eye at this person. I was stunned. They were absolutely… Gorgeous. It was boy, I would guess about 15 or 16. He was a good bit taller than myself but that wasn’t a surprise, I was pretty short. He was also very muscular. He wore dark jeans that were nearly black, a white wife beater, and a white and dull blue stripped button up shirt that hung loose and unbuttoned. His hair was amazing too. His hair was dirty blonde and it hung down into his eyes… His eyes were even more dazzling than the rest of him. His eyes were a dark sapphire blue. They were breath taking. I gasped lightly and he turned his head t meet my gaze. We both froze instantly. For a long… awkward moment, we stared silently and in shock at each other. Finally I was able to breath again. I looked down quickly trying to avoid eye contact again. I figured him to just leave but instead he walked towards me. “Um, hi,” I heard a soft, ringing voice to my right. I turned and looked up to see him standing about 4 feet away. I stayed seating for a second then quickly shot up standing to face him. “Hello,” I said slowly and lightly. I battered my eye lashed as an auto reaction. He smiled flashing his perfect white teeth at me. He held out his hand and spoke as if a soothing symphony were being played directly in my ear “Hi, my name is Jake. And yours?” I gently and slowly placed my hand in his to shake it firmly saying back “My name is Brook.” I smiled widely and he did the same. “So, uh, where ya headin’?” He asked. “America,” I answered simply, “How about you?” He chuckled a bit “America. I heard the population is much higher there than it is here.” I grinned “I sure do hope so.” At that second of the loud speaker of the airport a voice said “The 9 o’clock flight to California, America is now boarding. The 9 o’clock flight to California, America is now boarding.” “Oh, that’s me,” Both Jake and I said at the exact same time. We both smiled and laughed a bit then went on our way to the boarding gate. We walked in silence and stood a few feet apart. “So how old are you?” Jake asked with a light, curious tone. “14, and yourself?” I answered and asked back. “15.” He smiled that bright smile of his make me smile back. Once we got on the plane and put what carry on bags we had in the over head apartment, we sat quietly in the same row. I looked at the screen on my phone and Alana’s text message was still on the screen. I had completely forgotten to answer her message. “Hmm, im not gonna ask. And I know, im pretty excited. Hopefully it all works out in the end. And I have been… Well… Im alive, lets just stick with that answer. But I just boarded the plane and met this amazing guy names Jake. He is absolutely gorgeous! Well the pilot just announced to turn of all cellular devices and electronics so I guess I will talk to u sometime later tonight or tomorrow! Bye chic!” I texted back quickly then holding down the red button turning my phone off and sliding into my back right pocket. I buckled my seat belt quickly and sat quietly as the plane took off. Once we were in the air the flight attendants noticed my eyes looked a bit tired and offered me a pillow. I simply nodded. Soon the flight attendant came back with a simply white pillow. I put the pillow against the wall of the plane where the window was at and quickly fell asleep.
Chapter 3: The Chase - Spoiler:
“Brook. Brook, wake up,” I heard that same melodic voice say softly beside me. I opened my eyes slowly and rubbed the sleep away. I turned my head slowly to see his face. Jake was standing in the isle getting his bag from the overhead apartment. I smiled and unbuckled my seatbelt. I stretched out and yawn lightly. He smiled down at me “Did you have a good nap?” I giggled and nodded lightly, “I did,” I said in a quiet voice. I sat in the seat thinking to myself. What am I going to do? I cant tell him im a vampire. He would run and scream! But… I want to be with him. My head pounded as those thoughts ran through my head. I really liked him… Even after just meeting. I wanted to be with him. “Are you ok?” Jake asked once he unraveled the worried look on my face. I looked back up at him, his glorious eyes looking straight into mine. “Oh, yea. Im just thinking.” He smiled and nodded. Once he finally managed to get his back down he got mine down as well. He passed me my bag and I set it in my lap. We all say waiting for a while before we could get off the plane. Finally a tall slender man appeared at the front of the isle “Thank you for flying with Future airlines. You may now exit to your left. Be sure not to leave any belongings. Have a nice day everyone,” he said. I stood up and followed Jake until we got off the plane. Once we were into the air port out of the way of others he stopped and turned around. “So where exactly in America are you heading? If you don’t mind me asking,” He asked politely. I began to think he felt the same way about me as I did with him. I grinned “I really don’t know at the moment… Im looking for someone but I don’t know their exact location.” He nodded lightly. “Do you have a place to stay?” He asked while grinning. I shook my head, “I was just going to get a hotel.” His smiled then stretched out bigger than ever. “Would you like to stay with me until you know where you’re heading? I have a beach house over on the California coast,” He offered me still smiling. I thought it was funny how so many years ago you have to be 18 or older to do so many things and now the legal age for just about everything besides alcohol was 14. Once I realized I still hadn’t answered I quickly spoke, “Oh, that so sweet of you to offer. Um… I guess it wouldn’t hurt.” He smiled and then turned heading towards the escalators leading downstairs. Once we were downstairs he walked out once of the many front doors to the airport. I just followed quietly behind him. Once walking outside there was a yellow that looked just like my Curro I had back home except the steering wheel was on the left instead of the right. I hadn’t realized how late in the day it had grown. It was 5:37 PM and the sun was still high in the sky beating down. It wasn’t too terribly hot though, it felt nice. “This is my brother Chase,” Jake said when a tall muscular man came walking around the car to open the trunk. His eyes were emerald green. He wore black dress pants with a white button up shirt tucked in. He looked like he has just come from a formal gathering. He smiled at me “Hi, you must be Brook,” he said in a deep yet gentle voice. I titled my head a little to the side and asked, “How do you know my name?” He chuckled then answers sweetly glancing at Jake “I have heard a lot about you from my brother.” Jake gave Chase that kind of “Your dead” look. I could feel my face turning rosy red when I had caught up to what chase meant by “I have heard a lot about you from my brother.” Chase opened the trunk and set Jakes bag inside. He then held out his hand for my bad. I slid it down of my shoulder and handed it to him. He then put my bag in and slammed the trunk shut. Jake walked over the right side of the car opening the front door and sliding the seat forward so I could climb into the back. I grinned a bit regretting letting myself this close to people I hardly knew. I climbed into the back seat and sat leaning against the seat quietly. Jake and Chase then climbed in. I noticed Chase glance back at me a few times in the mirror but I didn’t think much of it for a while. I began to feel uncomfortable in the silence as Chase drove speedily towards Jake’s beach house somewhere along the coast of California. Jake looked into the side mirror and spoke in a deep tone nearly growling “We’ve got company.” Chase looked in his mirror and began to curse. “What? Who is it?” I asked leaning forward now. Chase spoke growing tense “Hunting group.” I looked at Jake. “Do you mean a creature hunting group?” I asked. Jake nodded. “Wait, why is that a problem to you guys?” I thought about the way that they were acting that we were being followed by hunters. It gave off hints that they weren’t everyday humans… Jake and Chase then looked at each other puzzled on what to say. “Uh,” I heard Jake say in a whisper that wasn’t meant to be heard. Chase looked back at me then back into his mirror at the hunters still following us in a white explorer with lights on the top and gear inside that you would find in cop cars. “Someone answer me,” I said in a harsher tone then I had intended. Jake looked at Chase and Chase nodded without taking his eyes off the truck behind us. Jake turned around in his seat enough for him to see me. “We’re vampire… and werewolf,” He said in a soft tone and a look in his eyes that seemed to be expecting me to scream in terror. I couldn’t help but to smile at the look on his face and the obvious expectations he made. “What?” He asked as I began to giggle very lightly. I smiled and finally spoke, “Jake. Im a vampire and shape shifter.” His dazzling sapphire eyes grew big. “Why are you looking at me like that?” I asked curiously. He shook his head “I just never expected someone as… as… -Chase popped Jake on the back- … Beautiful as you to be a vampire. I smiled and shrugged. At that second the white truck came up beside us at an equal speed of 92 mph and swerved over hitting our car. We all jerked to the side and I ended up hitting my head on the inside of the car. “Ow!” I gasped as I put my hand on my head. “Are you ok?” asked Chase and Jake at the same time. “Im fine, drive faster,” I said back roughly. Chase pushed the gas peddle down more and the speed meter went up to 95 mhp. “How do they know we’re different?” I asked. Chase frowned and spoke in a deep voice I have never heard before, “They have special technology that can lead them to us. Once they find us they lock onto us. The only thing we can do is destroy the technology and or kill the humans.” I looked back at the white car still driving at 92 mph diagonal to us now.
Chapter 4: Action - Spoiler:
We were now driving 100 mph. The white explorer was still close on our tails going about 98 mph. Chase looked back at me in his mirror and spoke quickly, “Can you fight?” I took a moment before answering thinking of myself fighting. “Uh, ya… I can fight,” Truthfully I didn’t know whether or not I could fight but I wasn’t going to let that hold me back. Chase nodded, “Good,” He said simply. “So what’s the plan?” Jake asked almost excitedly. Chase looked at the white vehicle that was still following close behind. “Just follow my lead,” He said speaking so quickly it was hardly understandable. “Hold on,” he said simply. Before I could realize what was happening Chase had slammed on breaks and spun around to block the road. Right before the explorer could hit us they hit their breaks and skidded to a stop. Chase and Jake quickly jumped out of the car. I was terrified when I saw the vicious look of Jake’s face. He had always seemed so calm and gentle but now he was wild and strong. When I could catch my breath I jumped quickly out the car taking off my heals and throwing them in the floor of the car. We all three walked towards the hunters vehicle while inside I could see them grabbing equipment. “Be careful,” Jake whispered to me. All I could do was nod. Out of the car stepped four men with very, very, large guns. Two of the men’s guns looked like missile launchers. I didn’t really understand how well that would help. We were in close range and if something was to blow up we could all die, including the hunters. The men began to shoot at Jake and Chase totally ignoring me. I guess I didn’t seem like much of a threat. Jake and Chase ducked and dodged quickly moving closer and closer to the hunters to make an attack. Chase had finally reached one of the men and put him in a head lock. Another man took his time to try and pry Chase off the man. It wasn’t working too well so he turned and punched Chase in the face. I could hear the man’s hand crunch from a good distance away. When Jake rushed to his brothers side and I noticed a man pointed a shot gun at Jake I flung myself at the man. We both rolled and stumbled about 6 feet away. We ended up landing about 3 feet apart. Somehow while I was stunned the hunter managed to get up before I could and get his gun. I stood up quickly and before I could stabilize myself and attack again the man shot. To his luck… He hit. I was shot on my left forearm. My arm began to bleed furiously. Jake and Chase realized I had been shot and began to fight faster and harder. Jake rushed to where I was and quickly took care of the hunter that had shot me. He tackled him and snapped his neck killing him instantly. In the mean time, Chase killed two others. There was only one left. While chase took care of the other man Jake quickly walked me back to the car. I had already lost a lot of blood and even though I was a vampire, I could die… Jake quickly yanked off his button up shirt and wrapped it tightly around my arm. “Ah!” I screamed as he tied it tighter. I looked down and could see the blood seeping through the shirt. “Damn it!” He yelled as his shirt became blood soaked. Chase quickly rushed to the car and jumped in the driver’s seat while Jake and I sat in the back. I held my arm up to my heart trying to slow the bleeding. The bleeding began to slow but it wouldn’t completely stop. We were now driving at a speed of 115 mph swerving through the few cars we happened to cross. “How much longer?” Jake asked in a worried tone as he looked back down at the blood soaked shirt wrapped around my arm. “Chase glanced back at us then back to the road and spoke in a calm tone, “5 minutes.” I closed my eyes and rested my head against the back of the seat. I felt Jake move closer holding my arm tightly putting pressure against it. When we had finally arrived to our destination my arm was throbbing furiously and I was slipping into unconsciousness from all the blood loss. Chase jumped out the car and ran to the door of the beach house unlocking the door while Jake carried me inside. He held me closely and I could hardly see now. My vision was blurred and I felt weak. Before I could even see the inside of the house I fell into blackness. While in this blackness… I had dreams. Or so they seemed to be. I saw myself with Jake. We were on the beach together. We were walking side by side and he had his arm around my shoulder. The closeness of Jake made me feel as If I was the luckiest girl alive. Jake was gorgeous, protective, sweet… And he was mine. I sat my head on his shoulder as we walked along the sand while the sun began to sink below the water. That was just one of the many dreams I had that night… I had dreams of Jake and I, dreams of Chase and Jake, dreams of just myself. The one dream that woke me up was probably the most scary. I was still stuck in the darkness when a dream began. I was running through the forest alone. It was dark outside and the full moon above me gave everything an unusual luminescence. As I heard something behind me, I began to run faster. Pushing myself as fast I could possible move until something knocked into my back sending me rolling. When the rolling came to a stop I was laying on my back on the cold, hard ground. I opened my eyes to see a wolf bearing its teeth in my face. Its snout was only an inch or so from touching my face. I could feel the warmth coming off the wolf in waves. The heat was quite soothing but it was hard to rest with what was still just an inch from myself. At the last second the wolf tilted its head back, howled into the dark night, and bent down to bite.
Chapter 5: Home - Spoiler:
I gasped at the dream flinging my eyes open widely. Jake rushed over to my side and put his hands on either side of my face. “Shhh, shhh. Brook, you’re alright,” he spoke in a soft whisper about half a foot away from my face. I could smell the scent of his sweet breath. I closed my eyes and let my body fall limp now that I knew I was alright. Around me I could feel many soft feather pillows and the thick comforter. Jake sat down on the side of the bed next to me. His presence made me feel calm. I turned my head to the side to see my left arm was wrapped in a bandage and in a sling. I frowned then turned my head to the right to look at Jake. “How long was I out?” I asked in a crackly voice. He looked back at me, his eyes glistening. “Just a day, but you lost so much blood you came very close to death. I didn’t know what to say back. I began to examine my new surroundings. The bedroom was just darling. The carpet was a unstained, spotless white and the walls were a soft, light purple. The king sized bed I was laying on was a dark purple, it was similar to the color of my eyes, and the pillows where white along with a throw blanket that laid on the end of the bed folded. There was a dresser directly in front of the big bed that was a dark wood with a 42 inch flat screen tv sitting on it. To my left was two white doors. One was a bathroom which I couldn’t see too well inside of and the other was a walk in closet which I could see either. Then, to my right was another white door which I guessed was the way in and out of the room and not far from the door was a white vanity desk. I knew that would come in handy, especially if I was to be staying in the same house as Jake. In a totally the room was just lovely. I slowly sat up moaning at the soreness that was pounding inside of me. I stretched out trying to free myself from the stiffness that had trapped my body after the full day of sleep. Jake stood up and leaned against the wall to my right crossing his arms lightly across his chest. I hadn’t noticed until now that he had changed. He was wearing a pair of light blue sweats and no shirt. I scanned over his muscular chest and arms. I had never been able to tell how well-built he really was. He realized I was scanning over him and began to chuckle. I could feel my face grow warm and I figured I was blushing. I looked down at the bed trying to hide my face from his view. “So how do you like your room?” Jake said in the low sweet tone that reminded me of my favorite symphony. My head jerked up to face him and a questioningly look crossed my face. “My… Room?” I asked speaking slowly, saying each word with curiosity. He smiled and nodded. Then he stepped forward gesturing to me and spoke with a laugh behind his words, “Of course… You don’t expect me to let someone as small and as fragile as you wonder off alone do you? You’re too precious to let go of.” I couldn’t help but to smile widely. “You really think im worth keeping around?” I asked with almost a said tint in my voice. Jake smiled and came to stand at my side looking down at me speaking each word with care, “Brook… I really like you… I don’t know how I can feel so close to someone I have just met, but I do.” Turning red again I looked away. Jake chuckled and reached his hand out for mine, “Come on. I want to show you around to your new home.” I place my good hand in his and he pulled my very gently up off the bed. He pulled me close to his left side putting his arm around my shoulder. I was shocked by his sudden close contact but at the same time… It was soothing. He led me out the room into a long hallway. The walls of the long hall were tan, matching the carpet. At the end of the hall was a staircase that was dark wood. I could count 5 white doors on the hall including my bed room door. Jake and I stopped as he began to point out rooms. Starting with the closest door to our left down the hall he began to name the rooms, “Guest bed and a bathroom.” Then he named the 2 doors to our right starting with the one closest to us, “Office and my bedroom.” I smiled and spoke with surprise “I’m guessing the house is pretty big…” Jake laughed his sweet soft laugh that made me lose my breath, “I guess you could say that,” He said still laughing a bit. Jake began to lead me down the long hall again. Walking down the stairs I tried my hardest not to stumble and embarrass myself but of course… Clumsiness never fails. I stumbled nearly falling face first down the stairs. Jake just chuckled. “Your cute when your clumsy,” He said chuckling lightly. I didn’t really know what to say to that. Once at the bottom of the stairs we were now in a big room. “This is the living room,” Jake said smiling as if he was proud of his home. I smiled, “Its so… homey.” The living room was absolutely divine. The floors were a light hard wood. In the middle of a room sat a large tan rug. In the middle of the rug sat a large square shaped dark wood table. Then there was a long, curved,“L” shaped white couch with absolutely no stains. On each end and the corner of the couch sat two pillows each, one tan and one brown. Then, 20 feet or so in front of the couch sat a 50 inch plasma tv on a white glass stand against the wall. On each side of the tv was a set I looked around the living room now getting down to details. The walls where painted a light tan similar to the rugs color. On the walls hung many pictures. I spotted 5 different pictures. One was a painting of a waterfall, another was a painting of a butterfly up close, one of a vace with flowers in it, and last were two portraits. One of Jake and one of Chase. I smiled when my eyes met the portrait of Jake. I could feel Jakes stare now so I turned to see his sapphire eyes glinting down at me. He smiled, “Do you like it?” I smiled widely and nodded. Jake began to lead the way once again taking a left through a large arch in the wall. The arch lead into the kitchen. The kitchen was nearly as large as the huge living room we were just in. The counters of the kitchen went all the way around except for where the doors, stove, and fridge were. The counters had tricolor granite tops. To match the counters the stove was black and the fridge was a two sided one that was colored silver. The flooring of the kitchen was tan tiles and the walls were a dark red. I had always heard the color red made people hungry so I guess it all made since. The walls of the kitchen, to the left of the arch from the living room, were covered in large glass windows that covered the whole wall looking out onto the ocean. Since the counters were there too it seemed as though the windows were only covering half of the wall. I looked around and saw another arch. Leading me around once again Jake took me through the arch that lead into the dinning room. The walls were white and the flooring was the same colored wood as the table. The dinning room table was very long. It shined as if it were brand new. It was stained with a dark wooden color. To match the table were 10 dark wooden chairs with white cochins. There were 5 chairs on each side and 1 on each end. The dinning room would be great for if Jake and I ever had… a family. I smiled at the thought. “So are you hungry?” Jake asked in a whisper since he was so close. I smiled, “Yes, I am actually.” He turned around pulling me gently along, still tucked under his left arm, into the kitchen. Jake walked me over to the counter beside the fridge, let go of me, then turned to face me. I was shocked when he places his hands on my hips and picked me up to sit my little body on the counter. Jake laughed, his sapphire blue eyes squinting. “What?” I asked lost at his sudden laughter. “You blushed when I put my hands on your hips…” Still laughing very lightly he answered back. “Oh,” I said simply looking down at the tile flooring. Jake placed his hand on my chin and pulled my face up so he could see my eyes like a mother did to a child. We both stared blankly into each other’s eyes. Reading each other’s expressions. Finally, after a long moment he let go and looked down awkwardly. Opening the fridge door he pulled out a pack of bacon and a carton of eggs. He held them up towards me as if he were asking if those were alright. I grinned and nodded. My arm had been completely numb since I had woke up but the pain was finally coming back. It was getting uncomfortable. “What time is it?” I asked. “3 in the morning.” He answered. “Do you mind if I run upstairs and change really fast?” He laughed then answered sarcastically, “Yes Brook. I care. I will not allow you to go upstairs and change.” I smiled and hopped off the counter pushing him playfully with my right arm then laughing and running off. I could hear his laughter walking through the living room to the stairs. After I successfully walked up the stairs without falling on my face, as I usually did, I walked into my lovely purple themed room. I skipped to the door I had guessed was the walk in closet. I stepped in slowly looking for a light switch. Flicking on the light I looked around good. The closet walls were baby blue and the carpet was the same as the bedrooms. The closet was absolutely huge. It was the same size as my bedroom! On the right wall were shelves with rows and rows of shoes. I spotted heals and sneakers and slippers and flip flops! This closet would work perfectly for me. Then, on the back and left walls were the clothing. The clothes were hanging from a metal rod that was just in the reach of my hand. The clothes were neatly separated by type. The section closest to the door was the pajamas. The next was everyday clothing, formal, underwear, and bathing suits. I walked up to the pajamas section and began to scan through. I wanted to be comfortable but if I was to be around Jake I had to look good. Still scanning I came across a pair of long, green, stripped, pajama pants and a light green tank top to match. I shrugged and took them off the hangers they were on. After quickly changing and brushing through my hair I ran downstairs being careful not to trip and fall. I stumbled a few times but luckily I never fell. Running into the kitchen and skidding to a stop I could smell bacon and eggs. Jake turned away from the stove to see me in my pajamas. He smiled and I couldn’t help but to smile back. I walked over to him and he wrapped his arms gently around me in a random hug. He began to speak in the softest whisper, “Brook. Do you trust me?” I didn’t look up to meet his gaze, instead I looked down and spoke hardly audible, “I don’t know why. I don’t even know you that well. But yes… I trust you. I feel safe with you.” I felt him nod and pull me closer. I sighed lightly then asked curiously, “How is it that we are so close in such a small amount of time?” Jake grinned. “Im not sure if this is the case but my brother once told me, when you meet someone of your kind… That you are meant to be with, you grow close… Very quickly and easily. He said I would know when I had found the one. And not to jump so far ahead, but I think that someone is you, Brook.” I smiled at his words hoping with all my heart that they were true. Breathing out deeply I let go of his muscular body and took a step back. “So where is your brother?” I had just realized he was nowhere in sight. “Right here,” said a voice that appeared in the doorway from the living room into the kitchen. I couldn’t help but jump and the new voice that came so quickly form nowhere. Jake threw a piece of bacon at Chase trying not to laugh, “Don’t scare her!” Chase caught it and popped it into his mouth laughing. I couldn’t help but to laugh along with them. Once the bacon and eggs were finished cooking, Jake toasted some bread and all 3 of us sat down in the dining room and ate together.
